O Maracanã terá um novo tipo de gramado a partir da temporada de 2027. A decisão foi tomada pelo Consórcio Fla-Flu após o campo receber críticas de jogadores de Flamengo e Fluminense ao longo deste ano. A atual Bermuda Celebration será substituída pela Celebration Hybrid, espécie considerada mais moderna e resistente.
A mudança tem como principal objetivo aumentar a resistência do piso diante da rotina de partidas e das condições climáticas enfrentadas no Rio de Janeiro. A retirada do gramado atual será realizada após a última rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro, em dezembro, e o plantio da nova espécie começará ainda no mesmo mês.

A avaliação do Maracanã apontou cinco fatores considerados essenciais para os cuidados com o gramado. Entre eles, quatro apresentaram piora na comparação entre 2025 e 2026.

Um dos principais indicadores foi a quantidade de partidas realizadas com chuva no dia do jogo ou nas 24 horas anteriores. O número aumentou 26% neste ano. O intervalo entre os jogos também foi apontado como um fator de impacto sobre a recuperação do piso. A densidade vegetal e a atividade fisiológica do gramado também apresentaram queda no período.
Mesmo com uma redução na quantidade total de partidas realizadas no estádio, as condições climáticas contribuíram para o desgaste. Segundo a avaliação apresentada pelo Maracanã, a combinação entre um inverno mais quente e as fortes chuvas deixou a superfície mais úmida e menos densa.
Com pouco tempo de recuperação entre os jogos, o gramado sofreu com a sequência de partidas. O novo piso escolhido para 2027 será a Celebration Hybrid. A espécie apresenta maior resistência em relação à utilizada atualmente e também oferece maior possibilidade de intervenção para reformas e tratamentos.
A substituição começará assim que o Campeonato Brasileiro terminar. Depois da 38ª rodada, todo o gramado atual será removido para que a nova espécie seja plantada ainda em dezembro. Atualmente, o Maracanã utiliza a Bermuda Celebration.
Jogo das Estrelas terá mudança de data
A obra também interfere no tradicional Jogo das Estrelas, evento realizado no fim do ano e que conta com a participação de Zico.
Com a necessidade de retirada e plantio do novo gramado, a partida não poderá ser realizada na semana do Natal. A organização busca uma nova data e avalia duas possibilidades: antecipar o evento para antes da 38ª rodada do Brasileirão ou realizá-lo somente em 2027, após a conclusão da mudança do piso.
Copa do Mundo Feminina não motivou decisão
O Maracanã será palco de nove partidas da Copa do Mundo Feminina, mas a competição não foi responsável pela decisão de trocar o gramado.
Em entrevista ao ge, Fred Nantes, CEO do Maracanã, explicou que a prioridade é preparar o estádio para a sequência de compromissos dos clubes e, ao mesmo tempo, garantir uma superfície capaz de suportar também os jogos do Mundial.
“Estamos fazendo o que precisamos para que os times joguem no Maracanã em todos jogos. Eu não posso pensar em 9 jogos (de Copa) quando tenho mais de 70 dos clubes que mantém o estádio durante 20 anos. Vamos colocar a espécie mais resistente até para aguentar os 9 jogos adicionais no próximo ano. O calendário é extremamente desafiador. Temos uma semifinal e final aqui, não tem nem um período de descanso para o gramado. Na Copa de 2026, Nova Iorque recebeu a final, mas teve um período grande para descansar”, afirmou Fred Nantes.

A nova espécie será, portanto, preparada para a temporada de 2027, que terá partidas dos clubes ao longo do ano e também os nove compromissos da Copa do Mundo Feminina programados para o estádio.
