Flamengo e Paolo Guerrero chegaram a um acordo na Justiça para encerrar uma disputa que se prolongava há oito anos. O entendimento entre as partes coloca fim a dois processos que, somados os valores discutidos, envolviam cerca de R$ 2 milhões. As ações estavam relacionadas à passagem do atacante pelo clube e, principalmente, ao período em que Guerrero ficou afastado dos gramados após ser suspenso por doping. O encerramento do caso foi comunicado oficialmente pelas partes.
Uma das cobranças feitas pelo Flamengo contra o ex-jogador era de R$ 1,8 milhão. O clube alegava ter direito ao ressarcimento pelos 120 dias em que Guerrero ficou fora das partidas em razão da suspensão por doping.

O caso teve início em 2017, quando o atacante testou positivo para benzoilecgonina, metabólito da cocaína, em exame realizado após a partida entre Peru e Argentina, pelas Eliminatórias da Copa do Mundo.
Guerrero afirmou que não havia consumido cocaína e sustentou que a substância entrou em seu organismo por meio de um chá contaminado. O jogador recebeu inicialmente uma suspensão provisória de 30 dias. Depois, a Fifa aplicou punição de seis meses, que posteriormente foi ampliada para 14 meses pelo Tribunal Arbitral do Esporte (TAS), após recurso da Agência Mundial Antidoping.
Durante a disputa esportiva, o peruano conseguiu um efeito suspensivo que permitiu seu retorno aos gramados por determinado período. Além da cobrança relacionada à suspensão, o Flamengo também moveu uma ação pedindo R$ 200 mil por danos morais. O processo incluía a Federação Peruana de Futebol.
O clube foi representado pelos advogados Michel Asseff Filho e André Oliveira de Meira Ribeiro. Ao longo da disputa, o Flamengo sofreu decisões desfavoráveis em diferentes instâncias, conforme já havia sido noticiado pela ESPN.
As ações permaneceram em discussão na Justiça por anos, até que Flamengo e Guerrero chegaram ao acordo que encerra os processos.
Guerrero deixou o Flamengo em 2018
Paolo Guerrero defendeu o Flamengo entre 2015 e 2018. Pelo clube, disputou 115 partidas e marcou 43 gols, além de conquistar o Campeonato Carioca de 2017. Depois da saída do Rubro-Negro, o atacante passou pelo Internacional e por outros clubes ao longo da carreira.
